Categories of Tornadoes
Like other nature disasters, tornadoes have a scale which is based on the speed of the winds and the devastating effects which are expected. As shown in the picture, the scale starts from EF-0 being the weakest with light damage and goes to EF-5 being the strongest and the most catastrophic where some of the most well known tornadoes are. The rates of an EF-5 tornado occurrence is very rare considering that in the United States, outside of the famous Tornado Valley, less 1% are classified as EF-5 tornadoes while EF-0 happens the most since 80% of tornadoes in the United States are EF-0. The higher tornadoes are rare but when they came their results are truly destructive.
